A phenomenal sucess. We are extremely happy to announce that our original idea of a book presentation of our book Feminist Theories, Aesthetic Practices and Globalised Technologies, in the form of a guided tour in the Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens has been received with great enthousiam by the public. Around five hundred people have attented the event, which has been, even for the museum, a record for a guided tour event. This great attendance, has given important visibility to our work and showed that the area which we decided to foucus our research is a pulsing area, a crucial field of our momentum. Our collaboration with the museum showed as well that these synergies between the academy and the art field have a tremendours dynamic.
“The Tools and the House”* is an alternative guided tour of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Contemporary Art (ΕΜΣΤ) based on seminal texts of modern feminist theory. The curators of ΕΜΣΤ Anna Mykoniati, Stamatis Schizakis and education curator Marina Tsekou together with the researchers of the Centre of New Media and Feminist Public Practices (editors of the volume Elpida Karaba and Iris Lykourioti and the members of the research team Ioanna Zouli, Valia Papastamou and Marianna Stefanitsi) will provide a guided tour of the Museum collection and will analyse the work of specific artists as well as the history of contemporary Greek art inspired by the essays of the collective volume "Feminist Theories, Aesthetic Practices and Globalised Technologies" published by University of Thessaly Editions.
A discussion will follow the tour and participants will be offered a complimentary copy of the volume
Saturday 12 November at 1pm.
You can find out more about the tour and EMΣΤ’s public programme here.
*The tour's title is inspired by Audre Lorde’s influential text “The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle The Master’s House”.
